Crochet Grape Doily

Now I am working on the old Grape Doily now this link might take a LONG time to load and you might have to refresh it a few times to get it all loaded.

but boy is this a great fun doily to make. I am using a lighter solid lavender for my first one, then will use a dark grape purple and as soon as i can get some i want some colorful purple like the picture shows!!

Sure is cold out here.

The Past is The Present

when i was a kid i had the most wonderful childhood. good food and a home. my grandma Thelma sewed these little stuffed toys for me and my brother and sisters. Now I am remaking them for us. I'm going to sew a set or two for my son Matts kids and maybe some day when they get to be my age they will remember their grandma sewing the toys for them...

do any of you go back to your past? i'm playing with my toys and video games. doing my crochet thread work. my neighbor across the street, Ila Reah Million, taught me to crochet on a yellow thread pineapple doily in 1970. The best times of our lives are when we don't have all the worries of grown folks. no bills no pressures just play and live.

i'm also going to carve some hitty dolls. i thought you just whipped out your pocket knife and went at it. nope. first of all that is not true, most pocket knives are not any where close to sharp enough to carve real wood. so i'm still working on getting the knife sharp enough! When I get the dolls carved out more I will post pics of them.

My friend Alice from my REAL early child hood is still in contact with me by email. I can't ask for a better or happier period in life. Maybe 45 years ago or longer and we still are buddies.

Fall Is Here.

i am thrilled that Fall has finally arrived. The leaves are splendid this year. Colors so bright it is like opening a jewel chest. With Fall the temperatures lower so that big yarn projects are fluffy and warm to work with.
I just finished a bright lemon yellow crochet shawl. I used the free pattern for the Seraphina shawl. Here is the link just in case.

I also am finishing up another afghan in brilliant bright colors. Each 'block' is worked from the outside edge inward. On the knitting front I am working on two white projects. A long rectangle shawl for my sister to give as a gift to her friend using the Melody Trinidad Pattern, and a square project using the Jeanie Wedding Shawl pattern for a dear friend, she is also giving it as a gift.

Working on a crochet filet pattern for a new shawl too. Using some gorgeous light brown wool from Astrid's Dutch Obsession site.

it is using the plastic bags you get when you buy stuff at stores. like walmart or target? you cut them into loops, daisy chain together, and crochet or knit them.

New Teal Sunflowers

here is a close up pic and progress pic of the new teal sunflower blanket i am working on now. the next row will be six more sunflowers to go around and fill in the spaces around the shape so far. i sure like this one. pattern is in Leisure Arts, A Garden of Afghans.

the top row folds over the fence to hold it up , blanket is five squares by five squares, each square is 12 inches x 12 inches.
notice the inside square of each square turns the other direction for an optical illusion.

OH a new goodie to crochet!!

I found these Tammy Hildebrand patterns in the Sensational Afghans book. I am in love with her methods of color changing. I found 2 patterns in the book by her and even though i changed the colors and the order they were done in it is her pattern for the hexagons. I made up my own little squares to go between them. I needed a solid color there to calm it down a bit. Supposed to be an afghan but I am rethinking making rugs small enough to go in the washer but large enough and then make enough of them to cover an entire floor. hmmm...... I am just in love with how these look. click them for bigger pics. If you know of any crochet patterns out there like these please leave a comment so I can go look too. I want MORE!!
crocheting them got so good I snapped my poor little plastic ice crochet hook right in half. drat. I tried to buy a new one but my local walmart had ONE in the whole store my size. Now I am on the hunt for more metal crochet hooks before I get hard up late at night needing one again. That was awful.
