Today my son Kevin will be starting class at college for his fifth degree. He has 2 associates, 2 bachelors and is working on his masters degree. Kevin is 26 years old. Not bad.

i do. and i like it with milk. but i dont like cold milk. and coffee mate has a flavor to it. i tried instant milk. it was fat free and tasted like it.
my favorite instant coffee is nescafe tasters choice. it is by the nestle company and they make a milk powder called NIDO. it is whole milk not fat free in a powder. you add it to the hot water or cold water, dont add the water to it that causes lumps.
two spoons in a hot cup of water, my usual sugar or sweetener, and a spoon of tasters choice and i got latte! it is super in hot cocoa too.
i just thought i would share that in case any of you drink coffee too.
i found my NIDO at my local saveAlot store. they say it is at walmart also.

I talked to them for over an hour. They said they do not have to notify customers of any costs or changes or prices. IF you catch them they only have to adjust you for 2 months. If they want to. If they agree to. So they will give me $20 worth of credit. total. That will mean I get to use my now 5 email accounts for 4 months for free. As they should have only been costing me $5 a month anyway. I am only receiving mail at one address. My son uses one. that means i still have 3 dead no email addresses assigned to me but they dont cost me extra.
I say for someone that has been a customer for over ten years, and all my family was on earthlink from Houston, Washington State, Baton Rouge etc. all of us.
boy do i feel like a dummy.
I just hope any and all earthlink customers give their representatives a call and discuss your billing. If you are not using dial up quit paying for it. If you only use one or two addresses I think it is like $3 a month, for 5 addresses it is $5 and watch out for that sixth one WHACK it will cost ya an extra $5 just for it.

I almost never complain about stuff. I just dont buy it or use it. But to find out this sneaky company is doing it right now to all of their customers made me so mad. I asked them if they are going to notify their customers?
NOPE. IF you ask, if you catch them, then they will do a change or adjustment.
I say just be aware. be careful.

Right now I am going to hold still and continue using my email address for the $5 a month charge. I pay for what i get. But paying for nothing sure makes me mad.

added note. I am not saying quit them. I am staying. Just be really aware of your billing and what you are being charged for!! I trusted them, but truthfully they are a business first, out to make money.

I am an Earthlink customer and i just found out they had been overcharging me for years. I have been with earthlink for ten years.

Many years ago i discarded home phone ATT for cell phone only Sprint service. I have 7 kids all grown now and all 7 have a sprint phone.

because i no longer had a home phone my sons upgraded our internet to comcast cable as we already had cable tv. Earthlink told me when i called in they had two packages.
dial up, or limited dial up.
$20 a month or $10 a month.
for twenty$$ you can dial up and connect. ok with no phone?
so i picked limited dial up and kept my unlimited number of email addresses.
not true.
you are allowed five email addresses for $5. then number six email address costs you $5 a month extra.
earthlink is the one that set up the sixth email address for me. it has never ever been used. never. but they continued charging me $10 a month now for years and years and years.

so my sister said hey i only pay $3 for ONE email addy why do you pay so much? I called earthlink and asked them. and yep they charged me $5 a month for a unused, extra, number six email address THEY set up and said oops!
i said OOPS? so they deleted the extra expensive unused account. NOT the billling just the account.

IF YOU use earthlink. call them. 1-800-EARTHLINK and talk to a representative. if you are not using those services they can charge you until you catch them. also if you are an AARP member they are supposed to have an AARP discount monthly off of your bill.

I can't get my money back. but if i can save any of you current earthlink customers on your next month bill then i will count it as money well spent.

I made some double ended crochet hooks and then made some of these too. I used dowels from michaels crafts although the Home Depot had some even in hard woods like walnut I sure want to try. I have a dremel tool for the cutting and sanding. I used candle was on a buffer attachement to polish it smooth. I cant find my extra cord that I ordered years ago so substituted crochet cotten until i can hunt up my cord.

when i was a kid i had the most wonderful childhood. good food and a home. my grandma Thelma sewed these little stuffed toys for me and my brother and sisters. Now I am remaking them for us. I'm going to sew a set or two for my son Matts kids and maybe some day when they get to be my age they will remember their grandma sewing the toys for them...

do any of you go back to your past? i'm playing with my toys and video games. doing my crochet thread work. my neighbor across the street, Ila Reah Million, taught me to crochet on a yellow thread pineapple doily in 1970. The best times of our lives are when we don't have all the worries of grown folks. no bills no pressures just play and live.

i'm also going to carve some hitty dolls. i thought you just whipped out your pocket knife and went at it. nope. first of all that is not true, most pocket knives are not any where close to sharp enough to carve real wood. so i'm still working on getting the knife sharp enough! When I get the dolls carved out more I will post pics of them.

My friend Alice from my REAL early child hood is still in contact with me by email. I can't ask for a better or happier period in life. Maybe 45 years ago or longer and we still are buddies.

Fall Is Here.

i am thrilled that Fall has finally arrived. The leaves are splendid this year. Colors so bright it is like opening a jewel chest. With Fall the temperatures lower so that big yarn projects are fluffy and warm to work with.
I just finished a bright lemon yellow crochet shawl. I used the free pattern for the Seraphina shawl. Here is the link just in case.

I also am finishing up another afghan in brilliant bright colors. Each 'block' is worked from the outside edge inward. On the knitting front I am working on two white projects. A long rectangle shawl for my sister to give as a gift to her friend using the Melody Trinidad Pattern, and a square project using the Jeanie Wedding Shawl pattern for a dear friend, she is also giving it as a gift.

I found these Tammy Hildebrand patterns in the Sensational Afghans book. I am in love with her methods of color changing. I found 2 patterns in the book by her and even though i changed the colors and the order they were done in it is her pattern for the hexagons. I made up my own little squares to go between them. I needed a solid color there to calm it down a bit. Supposed to be an afghan but I am rethinking making rugs small enough to go in the washer but large enough and then make enough of them to cover an entire floor. hmmm...... I am just in love with how these look. click them for bigger pics. If you know of any crochet patterns out there like these please leave a comment so I can go look too. I want MORE!!
crocheting them got so good I snapped my poor little plastic ice crochet hook right in half. drat. I tried to buy a new one but my local walmart had ONE in the whole store my size. Now I am on the hunt for more metal crochet hooks before I get hard up late at night needing one again. That was awful.

Pretty Plants and a Gift of Friendship

one of the nicest people in the world, Barb Peterson, sent a lilac plant to me. This was one of the biggest acts of love I have received in a very long time. After the passing of dear Queenie I wanted a lilac to plant in memory. She sent one to me. This really touched my heart.

See it happily growning in the square brown pot above. She also sent the lettuce, tomato, and pepper plants. Nothing pleases me more than growing plants.

But my arms get tired from dropping over and over. My wheel is not in my room and i set in my room looking at it through the door way thinking about spinning. This support spindle is perfect. No drop. No arms over my head. I ordered the Castle base and the Tenor with the black plastic cover and the Soprano without it. The Tenor is for my wool and the Soprano is for my new cotton. Yes! Cotton! I bought some brown cotton to spin from LittleBarnFibers on ebay. I bought the brown toned one but he has so many colors for sale. The cotton is smooth and even though it has short fibers it spins quite easily. I was surprised to be able to do it on my first try. But then with a combination of the spindolyn and the Little Barn Fibers cotton it was meant to be. So now i can set in my chair and watch tv while I happily spin away without my shoulders feeling like I moved heavy furniture all night. What a pleasure to be able to spin again. I had seen this spindle over and over on the internet when surfing late at night. I watch that video so many times that I have it memorized. I was just unsure how it worked and if it worked.

IT DOES!

If you like the way they look, you will love the way they spin. If you order you can choose to have the black plastic on the shaft of the spindle or not to have it on there. You can choose which base you like and which spindle shape you want. I don't get any goodie points for saying stuff about it. I bought mine already. But when you find something this great you just have to share it with your friends.

On her site you will find a pdf for a weighted bag to put around the base. I made my own with wool, a cottage cheese carton lid, aquarium rocks, and a crochet hook. It has an outside bag and then an inside smaller one. the rocks go between the inside tube and outside tube and are seamed in. The don't fall out. Marbles would work fine. What's the bag for? The spindle has a beautiful hand turned base. But putting it in the bag weights it down so it stays where you put it, like on your leg, or on your lap. This is just so much fun.

First Sock Off The Loom

my first loom sock, the efg extra fine gauge wonder sock loom, it is adjustable so you can knit all sizes of socks from a baby sock to 96 stitches. I used 64 stitches and the Cascading Leaves Sock pattern that I wrote. I used a short row heel with double wrap at end of rows. I made short tops as I was unsure of the Regia Yarn on the new loom. Gauge was 9 stitches and 12-13 rows per inch. Unbelievable with a loom!! Sam makes these and they are the finest wood crafting I have seen in many years. If you never knit a sock but love wood you got to see them!

I took the first sock off of the loom and put it on dpn size 0 to finish the end and the toe because I am not good yet at seeing how long to make the sock to fit feet while it is still on the loom. I figured this would be easier for me. After I finish one I can count rows and then know approximately how long to make them before a on the loom short row toe.

and that top left pic, that is the box my loom came in. the post office had a tragedy with it at the air port they say. it came in a plastic cover with a apology on it. boy am i lucky dalooms wraps it good inside the box because the box died in delivery!!

I have been knitting like a maniac. It is the wool. Yes that's it I am blaming the wool. It sucked me in like a black hole. I love this stuff, I got it from Astrid's. It is Evilla Art Yarn 83 - 6/2. Natural, grey and pink. I did the other shawl in the blue and gray colorways with the thinner yarn. But this one is my favorite to knit with. It feels like the kauni, a homespun natural feel. No nylon it it! Just good pure sheep!

I am almost finished with a new shawl. This time from the center out in a square. Trying to decide if I want the edge knitted from center out or seperate and then knitted on?

I am also playing with my looms again. I have a Beka Cherrywood. BUT it is too big to be fun. too awkward I wish it was one of the smaller ones like the cricket. The fun one is the Easy Weaver. I have the A, wish it would grow up and turn into the B model. Easy and Fun. Gives me all the weave weave weave I want with out all the fuss. Now if it would eat it's wheaties and grow into the B size I would be so happy.

Still knitting socks. Have so many pairs on needles. Also knitting mittens still. I was struggling along trying to do christmas presents then decided oh well and put them in the box. Ended up not sending them at all.

Detroit has a total of about ten inches of snow. BRRR. Both sons ended up with big dents in their cars. Drat. Kev got his fixed and now Matt has one that runs all the way down the side of his van. I am still without a car but hoping to find one by February or so.

Had a little revelation about car insurance. I and my boys, have NEVER had a car accident. No tickets. Nothing. Here we set paying No fault, commonly called ' No Fault Yo Fault' in my area. Cause it really doesn't cover anything at all. It just gives you a piece of paper that says you are insured. My insurance agency for over fifteen years was charging me $1200 plus every six months. Just for Kevin. Why? She told me it was my zip code.

Son Matt went to Progressive online. When he showed me that his was less than $300 I about had a stroke. So why was she charging me that much? Cause I believed her and paid it. Duh.

All those years I paid that money for nothing. Needless to say, not anymore. Now other son is a Progressive insured driver too. I can't believe I was paying a thousand bucks extra every six months for nothing. Think of how much yarn I could have bought ? er I mean, How much money I could have saved, yes, that is what i meant to say.....

Weather here is in the teens. Next week we go to single digits and even have days predicted at zero. All with way below zero wind chill numbers expected. I can see now the squirrels in the trees will be knocking at the door waiting on the corn and bird seed to be put out. Poor little things.

Molly is laying in the bed. She should really be ashamed. She is as lazy as I am and has gained weight. When I got her she was a petfinder dog shelter dog. A special angel of a lady had rescued her and advertised on petfinder with her. Son Kev drove 2 days up and 2 days back to bring her to me. She was thin, 20 lbs, and a touch shaky. Now she weighs in at 30 lbs plus and is the rooster of this barnyarn.

If you are considering getting a pet, give the shelters a try. There is so much love there waiting to come home with you. Maybe your next best friend is there now?

Does anyone else just LOVE Bollywood? I am absolutely devoted to the movies/dvds. I can watch them over and over. I love the music and the singing and dancing. I don't care that I have to use subtitles at all. Just super entertainment. The best source I have found so far is

Texas Yarn

Sometimes I fall over stuff. My sister lives in Houston. I was searching for a ball of yarn. Seems easy huh? NO! I looked for over a week. The yarn must be 50 g, and 180 yards approximately, and wool. Someone in the Townies Group pointed me to KNITIVITY Adventures in Fiber Artistry. Located where? TEXAS! Not only does he sell this size yarn but he has it in lots of colors. The only tough choice you will have is picking which color to knit with!

I want to knit MITTENS!! There is some mittens inside me that want to be knitted and they won't take NO! for an answer. Ok so what if it is 92 degrees? So What! It is so hot in my room i can't even stand to touch yarn. Good excuse to crank up the air conditioner and say oh well to big electricity bills. Well it is really only for 1 or 2 days a month. But I am gonna knit MITTENS!! I have a couple of mitten books. Tried and tried to find the latvian book with no luck. Now I am waiting on my Knitivity yarn in sport weight. Oh I see mittens in my future.
